Pattern Description
The Rivelin Ruffle Dress is a sleeveless dress with a lined and fitted bodice, a tiered gathered skirt and an invisible zip down the side. Its versatile design features include three lengths of dress, optional shoulder and neck ruffles and two different neckline heights. In total, there are 24 possible combinations; from a simple day dress to a glamorous evening garment.
Supplies
In order to sew the pattern, you will require the following materials:
Fabric (see recommended types below).
Matching thread.
Lining fabric for the bodice (can be the same as your main fabric).
40cm / 15.7” concealed / invisible zip.
1 hook and eye fastening (optional).
Fabric Recommendations
We suggest using light to medium weight woven fabrics with drape to help accent the gathers and create an elegant floaty dress.
We recommend using cotton lawn, linen, ramie, viscose, rayon, Tencel, georgette, chiffon, challis, double gauze, or crepe de chine. The bodice is lined, so either choose a fabric which is lighter than your main fabric for this, or simply cut the lining out of your main fabric.

What’s in a name?
The Rivelin Ruffle Dress: Inspired by a Local Ramble
Just like our other patterns, the Rivelin Ruffle Dress carries a name that's close to our hearts. This design is named after the Rivelin Valley, a beautiful stretch of nature located to the North West of our home city of Sheffield. The Rivelin Valley Trail is a special place for us – a nature and heritage trail that winds for two and a half miles, connecting Sheffield to the edge of the Peak District.
For Izzy and Tim, the Rivelin Valley is synonymous with happy times. It's where they love to wander with their two boys, enjoying the peace and beauty of the surroundings. The trail follows the River Rivelin, and it's the gentle ripples of this water that gave Izzy the idea for the dress's design. The way the water flows and gathers, creating delicate patterns, inspired the ruffles that grace the dress.
So, the Rivelin Ruffle Dress is more than just a name; it's an ode to a place that inspires us. It's a reminder of leisurely walks, the soothing sound of flowing water, and the simple joy of being surrounded by nature.
