IN PERSON: SOCIALS

Our Social Sewing Days are very popular with the sewing community both here in Sheffield and further afield. We host these on a regular basis to provide a space for people of all backgrounds to come and enjoy a day of sewing, knitting and quilting together. These days are great for sharing ideas, learning from a wide variety of different sewists and for seeing a huge number of different garments being made.

Whilst the theme of the day might be sewing, the social element is just as important and it’s wonderful to see new friendships flourish at these events. The indulgent afternoon tea is always well received and provides space in the day to explore the pattern, garment and fabric swap area. It’s also a great chance to mingle away from the machines.

The final hour is given over to a relaxing and beginner friendly Pilates session, which is physio-led by an APPI certified instructor, to provide the perfect conclusion to the day.

Social Sewing Day Details

  • Bring your sewing machine, tools and and current project along to the Jubilee Centre in Sheffield from 10-5pm to sew, knit or quilt. We will provide you with a dedicated workspace, table and chair in small groups of 4-6.

Ironing boards and irons will be available for you to use on the day. Two overlockers will also be available – one with white thread and one with black thread.

We will also have a cutting area set up with a number of cutting mats, although we do recommend you cut out any big projects before the day

In between stitches you can enjoy tea, coffee, cakes and chatter with fellow creative sewists.

  • Drinks and refreshments will be provided throughout the day, including vegan and gluten free options. Please let us know of any further dietary requirements on your booking form.

Afternoon tea (prosecco and cake) will be served during the afternoon at 3pm and there will be plenty of non-alcoholic options for you to enjoy too.

We will not be providing lunch, so feel free to either bring a packed lunch (fridges are available if required) or make the most of one of the cafes along Ecclesall Road for a lunch break.

  • There will be various sewing related things happening throughout the day, including a fabric swap, pattern swap and homemade clothes swap.

Have you made any garments that you never wear for one reason or the other? Perhaps once made, you didn’t like the fit, or the fabric wasn't quite what you were expecting or the style just didn't suit you?

At our social, we would like to offer you the opportunity to bring any unwanted ‘me-made’ clothes for a clothes swap. Perhaps someone else might fit that lovingly-made garment beautifully and you might find something to take home with you too! So bring your unused fabric, homemade clothes and patterns to contribute if you want to.

  • The day will be wrapped up with a relaxing and beginner friendly hour long Pilates class; this will be physio-led by an APPI certified instructor, to help your body stretch out again after all that sewing. If you wou like take par in this activity remember to bring an exercise mt or towel and a change of clothes (if desired).
